Letter from the Pastor April 7
Once again, I would like to thank all who were involved in our Holy Week and Easter Liturgies. We experienced a great weekend of worship experiences and the Spirit was working overtime among our community.
I also want to again congratulate the 7 who completed their initiation at the Easter Vigil. Each year I’m inspired by the excitement of the Elect and Candidates for full communion as Easter approaches. That was never more true than with this year’s group. They have formed into a wonderful little community over the months of their RCIA experience. I am also grateful to the RCIA team, especially the sponsors who have journeyed with our neophytes through the RCIA pilgrimage.
The Provincial of the Western Dominican Province has posted assignments for the coming year. As expected, Fr. Jacek will be reassigned this summer to the Newman Center at the University of Oregon, where he will be working with Fr. Daniel Rolland. Fr. James Thompson, who is currently a member of our itinerant preaching band, has been assigned as our new Associate Pastor. I look forward to sharing more about Fr. James with you in the near future and to introducing him to our Newman community later in the spring. We will also put together an appropriate sendoff for Fr. Jacek as we ship him off to the rainy Northwest. Please pray for Frs. Jacek and James and all the Dominicans who will be in transition this summer.
I am up on Mt. Lemmon this weekend with the participants in the first ever Wildcat Awakening Retreat. Please pray for us and this important new chapter in this Newman Center’s Ministry.
Again, I also ask your prayers for the group from Newman who will walk in the footsteps of Jesus as part of a Holy Land Pilgrimage which begins at Phoenix Sky Harbor early Monday morning. We will return to the U.S. on April 18 and back to Tucson on the 19.
On Wednesday, I led a memorial service for a 19 year Freshman Delta Tau Delta brother who was killed in a Motorcycle accident last weekend. Please pray for Spencer Repp and his family and to the young men of Delta who mourn the loss of their brother.
Also on Wednesday I performed an emergency baptism for a very young infant who has cancer and is being treated with chemotherapy. The little boy’s name is Manny and I would ask your prayers for him and his family as well.
