This Week at Newman
Events this Week:
If you are receiving a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or Doctorate we would like to
honor you at the 5:00 PM Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, May 5. Please leave your name and information with the office by calling 327-4665.
Monday – Friday at 5:15 PM
I want to encourage all of you to come to Daily Mass whenever you can as a way to deepen your spirituality and relationship with God, so that Mass doesn’t become a Sunday obligation but a way to grow closer to God. In addition, you may always join us for Morning Prayer at 7:30 AM and Evening Prayer at 5 PM (right before Mass).
SERVE AT CASA MARIA CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE
Mondays and Thursdays at 8:15 AM
Casa Maria is a Catholic Worker House that serves the poor and homeless in South Tucson. Only a few miles away, this community of workers provides members of the Newman Center with the opportunity to serve and grow in understanding of the mission of the Catholic Workers. If interested, meet us at the Newman Center at 8:15 AM on Mondays and Thursdays. If you have any questions, contact Sr. Angelica at firstname.lastname@example.org or Casey at email@example.com
POPE BENEDICT XVI READING GROUP
Mondays at 7:30 PM
All Graduate Students and Young Adults (ages 22-35) are invited to the Pope Benedict XVI Reading Group with Fr. Jacek Buda, OP. During each meeting, you’ll read a portion of Pope Benedict XVI’s book Introduction to Christianity and discuss. It is a great way to learn more about the Catholic faith!
Mondays at 9 PM
We invite you for a time of quiet prayer during Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every Monday night in the Newman Center Chapel.
Tuesdays at 7 PM
We invite anyone who is interested in becoming Catholic and anyone who is not Catholic but interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. We will meet in the Newman Center library. If you have any questions, contact Sr. Elizabeth at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“UNIQUELY LUKE” BIBLE STUDY
Wednesdays at 8 AM
Some of our most beloved Bible stories appear only in Luke’s Gospel, such as the Annunciation, the Visitation, and some of his best known teaching stories (the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan). In Liturgical Year C, the year of Luke, we will explore some of these uniquely Lucan take on the Good News of Jesus Christ. Each session will stand on its own, so even if you cannot make all the sessions, you are welcome to those you can make. All are invited to this Bible study in the Newman Center classroom.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT STUDENT MASS
Wednesdays at 7:30 PM
Every Wednesday night we invite all students to our Wednesday Student Mass! At 7:30, we begin with a time of praise and worship to prepare our hearts as we transition into Mass. The Mass is unique since it features a discussion homily. After Mass, we always have different types of snacks and invite everyone to hang out.
“JESUS OF NAZARETH” STUDY
Fridays at 11 AM
We invite all undergrads to join Fr. Bart in a study of Pope Benedict XVI’s book, “Jesus of Nazareth,” which is a study that uses scripture to answer the question of who is Jesus, so that we can come to know him more!
THINKING WITH THE POPES: DIVES IN MISERICORDIA
Fridays at 3 PM
All undergrad students are invited as Fr. Jacek Buda, OP, leads a study of Pope John Paul II’s encyclical “Dives in Misericordia.” The encyclical is about Catholic Social Teaching, and encourages all to live out the faith with those principles. There will be no outside reading required, since it will be read through together.
Fridays at 4:30 PM
We invite everyone to join us as we pray a student-led weekly rosary in the Blessed Sacrament chapel.
SUMMER & FALL PARKING PERMITS – Applications for Summer and Fall parking permits are being accepted through Friday, May 10. Summer permits are $35 for each session or $100 for the entire summer. Fall permits are $100. Yearly parking permits are $270. Those receiving permits will be notified by May 24. There will be no special status granted to people who have had a permit in the past.
Sunday, May 12 is the last 7:00 PM Mass for the semester. Summer schedule begins Sunday, May 19 with Masses at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 5:00 p.m. The Saturday Mass remains at 5:15 p.m.
