Freshmen Catholic Wildcats

We meet hundreds of Catholic Freshman each year during Freshman Orientations. Our welcoming of those students begin during the Summer when we, as a community,  begin to pray for these new students and make contact with them to inform them of our services on Campus for Catholic Students.

At the beginning of the Fall Semester, the Newman Center’s community spends a great deal of energy and resources welcoming incoming students. We hope that those student begin to think of the Newman Center as a resource that contributes to their overall success while studying at the University of Arizona. Among activities sponsored by the FRESHMAN WELCOMING TEAM are Freshman specific socials, opportunities to meet upperclassmen and Newman staff members who coordinate the various ministries of the Center, special opportunities for prayer, and, of course meals for students. All of our Freshman Welcoming Activities culminate with the FRESHMAN RETREAT about 1 month after the Semester begins.  Our community considers this one of the most important activities of the academic year.

Drawing on St. Paul’s numerous uses of athletic endeavors as analogies for the Christian life, this year’s Freshman Outreach Team has chosen The AmazinGrace as the theme for September’s Freshman Retreat.

This theme leaves room for us to examine 3 on-going “races” — The Race of our Faith, the Race of University Life, and the Race of Life in general.

Finishing line

The retreat weekend will offer the opportunity to rest from university life abut also will provide concrete equipment and training for the “races” that make up our lives. Among the most important “equipment” for race is God’s Amazing Grace.  Not only will the retreat provide opportunities during the weekend to encounter that Grace anew, but students will be aided learning to access God’s ever present grace in everyday life, in student life and in the Church.

We hope you will join us for The AmazinGrace in September.
